This freelance role involves developing complex web projects using Drupal 10/11 and AI integrations for public and private sector clients, including hospitals, government agencies, and organizations. Work is project-based with potential for retainer models, focusing on long-term partnerships with reliable senior developers. Projects include relaunches, new developments, maintenance, and AI integrations, starting from April/May 2026, with flexible availability and occasional on-site meetings in Europe.
Responsibilities
- Choose a track: Back-End (Drupal setup, architecture, custom modules, Search API/Solr, REST-API integrations, webforms, performance optimization, security, CI/CD); Front-End (Theming with Twig, component-based architecture, design implementation, WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, JavaScript/CSS/SASS, performance optimization); or Full-Stack (combination of both).
- Collaborate in agile sprint teams.
- Conduct code reviews and maintain technical documentation per agency standards.
- Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA, GDPR, Swiss data protection laws, and OWASP where relevant.
Qualifications
- Native-level German proficiency.
- At least 5 years of Drupal experience in the chosen track (Back-End, Front-End, or Full-Stack) in a digital agency or similar environment.
- Active expertise in Drupal 10/11.
- Proof of qualification via Acquia certification (Back End Specialist, Front End Specialist, or Certified Developer), active Drupal.org profile with contributions to Drupal 10/11 modules or core, or public code portfolio (GitHub/GitLab) with Drupal examples from the last 2 years.
- Project experience in the public sector or with institutions.
- Back-End: PHP 8.3+, object-oriented development, Dependency Injection, Drupal Services, Search API/Solr, REST APIs, third-party integrations, webforms with complex calculations, custom module development.
- Front-End: Twig, Drupal theme architecture, component-based development, JavaScript, CSS/SASS, performance, accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA), understanding of Drupal render and theme hook systems.
- Full-Stack: Solid knowledge in both areas, ability to switch between front-end and back-end as needed.
- Personal traits: Reliability, proactive communication, clean and documented code, independent remote work.
