This AmeriCorps Individual Placement position focuses on GIS work and Native relations for the Native Lands National Trails project, in collaboration with the USDA Forest Service for the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. The role involves creating and sharing resources to advance knowledge of Indigenous ancestral lands through partnerships with Indigenous communities along National Scenic and Historic Trails, while promoting conservation, education, and public access.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail to support project goals in GIS and Native relations.
- Engage in introductory GIS-focused activities to develop resources for informing the public and trail partners.
- Collaborate with Indigenous communities, the Partnership for the National Trails System, Native Land Digital, Bureau of Land Management, and Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps.
- Contribute to efforts that reconnect participants to land, cultural heritage, and traditions through conservation service.
- Support public access and education initiatives, such as online mapping and informational programs.
Qualifications
- Interest in GIS, conservation, and Native relations.
- Encouraged to apply if Native American or Alaska Native.
- Ability to work remotely within 50 miles of trail centerlines or in preferred locations for in-person engagement.
- Commitment to a 1700-hour term from June 1, 2026, to May 14, 2027.
