Data Engineering Manager

Job Overview

Lead the foundational backend of the data organization by managing a team of data engineers, shaping the hiring roadmap, and transitioning to a structured, scalable data ecosystem. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data drives strategy, product, and growth decisions using tools like GCP, BigQuery, Dagster, Airflow, and Fivetran.

Responsibilities

• Manage, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of Senior Data Engineers and CDP Engineers.
• Drive hiring for the Data Engineering function, including scoping future specialized roles such as Machine Learning Engineers.
• Foster a culture of engineering excellence, continuous learning, and cross-pollination of knowledge.
• Own the technical roadmap for data infrastructure, orchestration, and ingestion.
• Drive data-platform architecture decisions, turning ambiguous business problems into scalable technical designs.
• Bridge the data platform with MarTech and third-party ecosystems to ensure cohesive data flow.
• Partner with Software Engineering to embed data quality at the source, implementing data contracts and a data catalogue.
• Establish foundations for real-time data capabilities and prioritize data quality, privacy, and governance.
• Transition the team’s workflow from reactive to structured, agile delivery.
• Oversee maintenance and optimization of data pipelines, implementing CI/CD, observability, and data quality gates.
• Assist with complex code reviews when necessary.

Qualifications

• Experience managing and mentoring data engineering teams.
• Strong knowledge of data infrastructure tools like GCP, BigQuery, Dagster, Airflow, and Fivetran.
• Ability to design scalable data architectures and integrate with MarTech and partner ecosystems.
• Skills in embedding data quality practices and driving agile workflows.
