Job Overview

Lead the design, implementation, and governance of scientific data and metadata frameworks in a remote environment. Collaborate with data producers, scientists, software engineers, and data curators to ensure data accuracy, documentation, and accessibility throughout the lifecycle. Focus on establishing FAIR principles and integrating metadata across repositories, portals, and cloud platforms, combining technical expertise with strong communication for data integrity and sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement metadata frameworks aligned with standards like ISO 19115, FGDC, Dublin Core, and Schema.org.
  • Collaborate to ensure accurate metadata capture throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain metadata pipelines and tools for ingestion, validation, and transformation.
  • Oversee organization, cataloging, and documentation of large datasets to support FAIR principles.
  • Manage metadata integration into repositories, portals, and cloud platforms.
  • Work with IT and cloud teams for metadata integration in storage, access, and analysis workflows.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on data management best practices and contribute to policy development.
  • Support audits, compliance, and reporting for data management.
  • Adhere to information security policies and manage confidential information.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information science, Data Science, Computer Science, Geoinformatics, or related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in data or metadata management in scientific, research, or organizational settings.
  • Strong knowledge of metadata standards, data modeling, and controlled vocabularies or ontologies.
  • Proficiency with data cataloging and metadata tools like CKAN, DataVerse, GeoNetwork.
  • Experience with large-scale or distributed datasets such as environmental, genomics, or sensor data.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, GCP.
  • Understanding of data governance and compliance policies.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Familiarity with scientific data formats.
  • Scripting experience, preferably Python.
  • Experience with Software Configuration Management tools.
  • Understanding of Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD concepts.
