Oversee a team of attorneys and legal professionals to ensure high-quality case handling, strategic decision-making, and efficient operations within litigation or pre-litigation departments. Mentor attorneys, drive continuous improvement, monitor case pipelines, and foster a positive, accountable culture. The role supports fully remote or hybrid work with periodic in-office presence for meetings and collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily guidance, coaching, and mentorship to attorneys and legal staff.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, set goals, and support professional development.
- Ensure accountability for case progress, file quality, and client communication standards.
- Lead team meetings, case reviews, and training sessions to reinforce best practices.
- Oversee complex or high-value cases and assist with strategic decision-making.
- Review and approve key case actions, including settlement recommendations and litigation strategies.
- Monitor case pipelines and ensure timely resolution aligned with firm goals.
- Collaborate with firm leadership to develop and implement processes for efficiency and quality.
- Track team performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and drive data-informed improvements.
- Support compliance with legal, ethical, and firm-specific standards.
- Uphold exceptional client experience and address escalated concerns.
- Represent the firm in court, mediations, hearings, or public-facing engagements as needed.
- Work closely with intake, investigations, litigation support, HR, and executive leadership to align goals and improve workflows.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active and good-standing license to practice law in Michigan (or ability to obtain quickly).
- 10+ years of experience in personal injury, civil litigation, or a similar legal field.
- 5+ years of leadership or management experience within a law firm or legal department.
- Proven success managing attorneys and high-volume legal cases.
- Strong communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
- High emotional intelligence and ability to lead through influence and accountability.
- Preferred: Experience in a large personal injury firm or masstort environment.
- Preferred: Demonstrated ability to analyze operational data to drive performance.
- Preferred: Familiarity with legal case management software.
