Job Overview

The Senior Financial Analyst role involves providing financial support to client departments, assisting with budget development and monitoring, performing variance analysis, and contributing to external reporting. The position focuses on coordinating complex financial and statistical analyses, interpreting results for business needs, budgeting, forecasting, and process improvements within a health services context. It is a remote position eligible within Alberta.

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial customer support to staff in client departments.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and monitoring of departmental budgets.
  • Perform detailed variance analysis and assist with external reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate and prepare complex financial and statistical reports, including interpretation for business and external needs.
  • Focus on budgets, forecasting, and recommendations for program or cost efficiencies.
  • Develop or enhance processes and controls.
  • Coordinate and monitor financial projects.
  • Coach and guide other department staff, such as Financial Analysts.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree specializing in accounting or a related field (e.g., economics, statistics).
  • Minimum of four (4) years of accounting or financial experience.
  • Intermediate MS Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think and act strategically and systematically.
  • Work with minimum supervision and meet defined deadlines.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Preferred: Working towards or completion of a professional accounting/finance designation or MBA.
  • Preferred: Financial experience in a health care environment.
  • Preferred: Strong working knowledge of Oracle and Hyperion applications.
  • Preferred: Experience providing financial advice to leadership positions.
